Domaine Bousquet, Malbec, Organic 2019

    Fred’s Tasting Note :

With altitudes ranging up to 1600 m, Gualtallary occupies the highest extremes of Mendoza’s viticultural limits, with the source of some of Mendoza’s finest wines. Locals dismissed the area as too cold for growing grapes. Jean Bousquet, a french winemaker on the other hand, reckoned he discovered his dream terroir, an ideal location in which to nurture organically-grown wines. His daughter is now runing the estate

This malbec  show intense purplish colour with dark shinny hints. The nose shows plenty aromas of black fruits like blackcurrant and event red fruits like raspberries . The palate is medium bodied, with coarse tannins ( young), with very dense juicy black fruits, but also some very mineral notes probably added by the altitude of the terroir of those vines .  Easy to pair as tannins are softer than their French Malbec cousins, it is still very suitable for a “Asado Argentino”.

FD Rated : 89/100

Location :

The estate is loacted in Gualtallary, Tupungato, Uco Valley (Mendoza). The area has idyllic wine-growing conditions. The vineyard is situated in the Andes foothills at an altitude of 1200 meters/4000 feet above sea level, therefore benefiting from a cool climate and constant fresh air.

Soil :

Thanks to the sandy soil, drainage tends to be excellent. Most of the soil surface has low concentrations of organic material due to the elevation and climate, which produces very favorable stress in each of our vines. Grapes develop increased levels of sugar and acidity.  Sandy soils help create wines with elegant profiles.

Vinification :

100% Malbec, fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its varietal typicity and achieve a fruity and expressive character
