Penfolds Grange, Bin 95 , 2010

    Fred’s Tasting Note :

“A kaleidoscopic sensorial unfolding!” as Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker would say .

I feel very lucky as i got to taste a few different vintages of Grange, and honestly , i won’t write lines of comment on this wine . It is an experience, also a budget, and probably for many people , a one time thing … but if you are a real wine lover , it is definitely a must try  !

Cépage : 96% Shiraz, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon

Area : Blend of Shiraz from different areas , especially Barossa Valley but also Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Magill Estate which is definitely the Penfolds Trademark . The fruit from these regions showcases excellent colour, concentrated flavour development and integrated tannins – hallmarks of a stand-out 2010 vintage.

Region of Production : Barossa Valley and MacLaren Vale, South Australia

Healthy winter rains in the Barossa Valley were followed by a dry and mild-to-warm spring which aided
budburst. Consistent and slower growth continued and overlaid flowering and fruit set. December
temperatures were much cooler, offering vines ideal growing conditions leading to veraison in early January.
Summer rainfall came early which was followed by dry, warm weather, alleviating any disease concerns.
Mild conditions followed during harvest, with yields in some vineyards below average due to the dry season
overall. The fruit from these regions showcases excellent colour, concentrated flavour development and
integrated tannins – hallmarks of a stand-out 2010 vintage.

Vinification :

Traditional vinification with very long ageing of 17 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads

Agriculture :  Classic
